CUT (Halo) – Maximum bits: 8

The CUT format is exceedingly awkward, and GFX-View makes a few assumptions about how CUT files will be used in order to make it workable. To begin with, CUT files don't know how many colors they have in them. They rely on a second file, called a PAL file, to define their colors.

GFX-View looks for a PAL file to decide whether a CUT file has two bits or eight bits of color. If it doesn't find a PAL file with the same name as your CUT file, it will assume that the CUT file in question only has two bits of color. Otherwise, it will assume that there are 256 colors in the file.
